WEIL WEST – Residents of Udhum payam in Aweil West County are in tears after fire burnt more than 100 shops and some homes in the vicinity, the police said.

The area police inspector, Colonel Atak Wol Kiir told Sudans Post via phone that the fire started from one of the cooking areas and later spread to other places.

He, however, said the cause of the fire was unknown.

“It all of a sudden erupted from one of the restaurants. As I speak to you the market is still burning and a large fume has controlled the whole area,” said Wol.

He said police are investigating the cause of the fire, but warned careless cooks.

Last month, a fire outbreak destroyed several shops in Maper-Akot-aru market.
