JUBA – The deputy chairman of Tonj Community in Juba Riak Gok Majok has resigned from his position after he was not allowed by the presidency to attend the swearing in ceremony of the newly-appointed Warrap State Governor Manhiem Bol.

In statement seen by Sudans Post, Mr. Majok said as a deputy chair of Tonj Community where the new governor hails from, he should have been given the opportunity to accompany the governor to J1 and said he cannot take it anymore and resigned.

“First, Manhiem Bol is my younger brother.  We are coming from the same area, Ananatak community of Tonj East County.  I am a deputy chairman of Tonj community leadership in Juba.  So, if there were two people needed to accompany the new Governor for swearing in, I should have been among them,” he said.

“I couldn’t take it anymore.  I am therefore, standing down as Deputy Chairman of Tonj community leadership as from today,” he said, adding that “I shouldn’t have been excluded” because “I am Manheim’s elder.”

President Salva Kiir Mayardit last week issued a presidential decree on the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) dismissing military governor Gen. Alieu Anyieny replacing him with Manhiem who was the deputy governor of the defunct Tonj state.

Manhiem was sworn in on Friday afternoon with President Salva Kiir Mayardit urging him to restore laws and order and also stop injustices in the troubled state where the previous governor has been accused of crimes against humanity.

“As you take up your new assignment, it is your responsibility to care for all people in the area and give them right advices. You [must] stop injustices in the state and ensure people abide by the rule of law,” Kiir told the new governor.
