JUBA – The leader of the main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition (SPLM/SPLA-IO) Kitgwang faction, Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual, has named a deputy spokesman for the group, according to an order extended to Sudans Post.

In the order, Gatwech named Lt. Col. Jidiet Yak Dak as deputy military spokesman of the main armed opposition faction, effective from August 20, 2022.

“Based on the structural document of the SPLM/A (IO), and reference to Kitgwang declaration, I 1st Lt. Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual, the interim chairman and commander in chief of the SPLM/A (IO), do hereby appoint Lt. Col. Jidiet Yak Dak as deputy spokesperson of SPLM/A-IO effective from August 20, 2022,” Gatwech said in the order dated August 30.

MILITARY SPOKESMAN PROMOTED

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a source familiar with the SPLM-IO Kitgwang leadership said Gen. Gatwech has also promoted the military spokesman of the group, Alfred Gach Thot, from the rank of colonel to the rank of brigadier-general.

“The chairman and commander in chief has also decided to promote comrade Alfred Gach Thot from the rank of colonel to the rank of brigadier general and some people that I am unwilling to name here have also been promoted by the chairman and commander in chief,” the source said.

When asked of the mass promotion, the source said “the SPLM/SPLA (IO) Kitgwang has been working for the last one year in order to organize itself and this is the beginning of the reorganization process after we have been betrayed by out comrade, Gen. Johnson Olony.”
