Gen. Gatwech promotes 9 senior SPLA-IO officers to higher ranks

In an order, the controversial opposition military leader said he has promoted Brig-Gen Giel Gany Kong, Brig-Gen Gatluak Thok Buob, Brig-Gen Pal Duoth Nyuon, all, to the rank of Major-General in the Sudan People's Liberation Army in Opposition Kitgwang faction.

JUBA – South Sudan’s former opposition military chief of staff General Simon Gatwech Dual who broke away from the main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) to form a separate faction of the group in early August has promoted at least nine senior military officers from the group to higher ranks.

“Pursuance to the Kit-Gwang declaration of 3rd August 2021, I, 1st Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual Interim Chairman and Commander in Chief of SPLM/A (IO), do hereby promotes the following seniors officers to various ranks with effect from 7th September 2021,” General Simon Gatwech said in an order extended to Sudans Post on Tuesday.

In the order, the controversial opposition military leader said he has promoted Brig-Gen Giel Gany Kong, Brig-Gen Gatluak Thok Buob, Brig-Gen Pal Duoth Nyuon, all, to the rank of Major-General in the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition Kitgwang faction.

General Gatwech also promoted Brigadier Bidong Jok Kuel, Brigadier Peter Gatwech Tuom, Brigadier David Diew Ruot, Brigadier Koang Nyuon Luoy, and Brigadier Lam Thok Bol to the rank of brigadier-general.

He also promoted Major Wiyual Ter Thok to the rank of colonel.

“The Interim Chairman and Commander In chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) congratulates the promoted officers and wishes them success and prosperity in the SPLM/SPLA (IO),” General Gatwech added in the order.
