JUBA, APRIL 17, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan government has been angered by the Ugandan media after one of the television channels in Kampala referred to the unfolding Sudanese conflict as “South Sudan fighting”.

Uganda’s NTV on Sunday while covering the fighting in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and other areas in Sudan on Sunday, NTV reported on its TV that the conflict is a “South Sudan fighting” and that Ugandan government would “evaluate options to evacuate Ugandans”.

In a statement, the South Sudan embassy in Kampala said it is appalled by “misconception” of the deadly Sudanese conflict, and that it may affect South Sudan’s economic standing and as well stain the image of the world’s youngest country.

“The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan accredited to the Republic of Uganda is appalled by the footage script aired live on NTV – Uganda on 16th April 2023, 21 hours news in which the station refers to the conflict taking place in the Republic of the Sudan as ‘South Sudan Fighting’” the embassy said.

“The NTV as one of the reputable TV stations in the Republic of Uganda should adhere to ethics of good journalism by providing its viewers with credible information.

“Any misconception about the conflict in the Sudan as ‘South Sudan fighting’ creates panic among citizens of East African Community and affects the image and economy of South Sudan,” the statement seen by Sudans Post reads in part.

It further said that “It also undermines the achievements made in the implementation of the Peace Agreement, “the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).”
