Speaking to journalists during a press conference in Juba on Tuesday, Makuei claimed that recent United States government’s warning to American citizens against dealing with South Sudan entities with ties to corrupt government officials or their families is proof of its hostility towards the country.
“On the US statement, after all, who are the investors here in South Sudan? After all, there are no American investors here. There are no US investors here because US had ever been clear against the government of South Sudan. I can say they are against the people of South Sudan,” he said.
Makuei also accused the US of trying to sabotage South Sudan’s upcoming investors’ conference. The conference is scheduled to take place later this year and is aimed at attracting foreign investment into the country.
“This is why they are saying it is risky to go and invest in South Sudan because we are preparing actually for an investors conference. And in order to stop the Americans, American citizens from coming to attend this conference, they had to pre-emit by saying, no, South Sudan is risky,” he said.
“This is also another negative approach and negative attitude showing us the interest that Americans of course they believe in their interest as long as you are not serving their interest then you are you are branded as against their policies and against the American interest,” he added.
He said that South Sudan is one of the countries branded as anti-America by the US government because it is not serving their interests.
“South Sudan is branded as a state against American interest and as such they don’t want Americans to come and invest here. So, they are stopping from coming to attend this conference only. But others are allowed,” he said.
“Okay if it is business alone, what about others? Because it is not only business which is at risk. If they are saying Americans don’t go to South Sudan because it is risky, then that is okay. But if they are saying, you business people don’t go to South Sudan because it is risky, then others are allowed to come.
“Even in the embassy here, and so many of them who are in the NGO sector. All these people are Americans and if there is any risky situation, they should have all call upon them to vacate South Sudan.
“So that is another way of telling the Americans don’t invest in South Sudan. But they are not the only investors in the world, so others will come and invest,” he added.
I think nobody will risk his/her money in south Sudan because the government is corrupted .You may full us the southbsudanese because we are oppressed by individuals who engulf the resource of the Country but they will not suck foreign money on our behalf.
