Michael Lado Thomas Allah-Jabu, Mayor of Juba City Council says the City Council terminated the contract of Go Green on 7th June 2023 after it violated the agreement.
“This is to notify you (the public) and all stakeholders that the administration of Juba City Council has decided to terminate all contractual obligations it has with East Africa Go Green on June 7th, 2023,” Allah-Jabu told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.
He said the council has been forced to take end the contract of the company after it stop collecting garbage for the past two months.
“Over 90 days ago, East Africa Go Green Company Limited has stop cleaning sole waste of Juba City and as a result, this failure has made the environment of Juba City bad,” he said.
Allah-Jabu said the unprecedented situation of the garbage along the streets of Juba has brought shame and a heavy financial burden to the city administration.
“The city council in the absence of the company has overtaken the cleaning activity with its limited resources as a result this unprecedented situation has exposed the city administration to heavy financial burden and shame.”
Efforts to get a response from the company have been in vain.
On 21 March 2023, the ministry of local government and law enforcement in Central Equatoria State suspended the operations of the East Africa Go Green Company, citing failures to deliver.
On 1st January 2021, Juba City Council signed a 10-year contract with the company to manage garbage collection and waste disposal.
To streamline waste disposal, the City Council divided the city into three zones and granted the East Africa Go Green Company to manage Juba and Kator blocks, including Gumbo-Shirikat which falls under Kator.
