According to police spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin, the police were acting on a court order to demolish the church, which was built without permission, but some armed people at the church resisted the demolition, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
“It happened at around 9AM when we when there on court orders and these people have been given land by the government but they refused. After we arrived, some people from there started to open fire on the police,” he said.
Justin said that the police were able to control the situation and that no one was injured. He said that the police are investigating the incident and that those responsible for the gun exchange with the police will be brought to justice.
“No one has been injured and we are not investigating who was behind the gunfire,” the police spokesman further said.
