JUBA – Heavy gunfire was reported on Sunday night when armed criminals attacked residents of Juba’s Lemon Gaba, who for their part were also armed, resulting in the wounding of one person.

One resident told Sudans Post on Monday that the incident took place at midnight on Sunday when armed criminals in big numbers went house-to-house to steal properties in the neighborhood.

“Here in Lemon Gaba there was incident on Sunday. It was a very heavy gunfire some criminals came here going door to door to rob people and in the process they met people with guns and they were resisted by force of arms too,” the resident said.

“There was no many casualties. Only one person was wounded from the site of the people of Lemon Gaba and since then they ran away,” he said.

For his part, army’s acting spokesman Brigadier-General Santo Domic confirmed separately the incident saying it was between the unknown gunmen and a resident in Lemon Gaba.

“It was actually a struggle between an habitant of Lemon Gaba residential area and a group of the so-called unknown gunmen,” General Domic was quoted by the Eye Radio as saying.

He stated that the attackers looted some properties and escaped after being shot at by the resident.

“They fought, and I think one of the civilians was shot and he was evacuated to Juba military hospital for treatment,” he said.
