The Kenyan presidency statement said that the delegation will be led by South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Kenyan President William Ruto, and Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh in the shortest possible time.
“IGAD resolved to send Presidents Kiir, President Ruto and President Guelleh at the earliest possible time to reconcile the conflicting groups,” the statement said. “They said stability in Sudan is key to the social and economic stability of the region.”
The regional leaders further said that the deadly conflict “undermines the peace progress achieved over the last four months. The leaders also asked the two groups to provide a safe corridor for humanitarian assistance in Khartoum and other affected towns.”
Sudan plunged into crisis on Saturday after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched attack on several army positions in the country’s capital Khartoum and other cities important towns such as Merowe in the Northern State.
Fighting has since entered its second day with the Sudanese army appearing to have an upper hand in the capital, eastern and southern parts of the country.
