KHARTOUM – A group of Israeli intelligence officials last week flew to the Sudanese capital Khartoum to meet the country’s deputy chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council and commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo who is better known as Hemeti, officials quoted by Israeli journalist Barak Rabid.

According to the journalist, the meeting which took place at General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo’s office last week in Khartoum became a new source of tensions because the meeting had reportedly been made without the knowledge of General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, the leader of the Transitional Sovereign Council.

The Israeli journalist said he has been told by officials on both sides that General Hemeti “has been trying to create an independent relationship with the Israelis in order to promote his own domestic political agenda in Sudan.”

This, he said, is in spite of being a “highly controversial figure who has been accused of war crimes in Darfur.”

According to the Barak, Sudanese officials were upset about the optics of the Mossad visit, “which could be seen as an Israeli attempt to undermine Burhan and the civilian government.”
