JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and the Japanese ambassador to South Sudan, Naohiro Tsutsumi, met on Tuesday at the FVP’s office and discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.

Machar’s office said in a statement seen by Sudans Post that the two men met at Machar’s office and discussed relations between Japan and South Sudan.

“First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, and the Japanese Ambassador to South Sudan, Naohiro Tsutsumi, met today and discussed a number of issues,” the statement by Machar’s office said.

“They include bilateral relations between Japan and South Sudan as well as the peace process in the country,” it added.

Japanese government has been supporting South Sudan, world’s youngest country, since its independence in July 2011.

The Asian nation is currently carrying out a number of developmental projects including the construction of Juba’s Freedom Bridge which was however halted due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
