BOR – South Sudan civil society activist who was arrested on Monday morning by a joint force of police and National Security Service (NSS) has been released, but after what a fellow activist described as a “serious torture.”

Bol Deng Bol, the Chairperson of Jonglei State Civil Society Network who doubles as the Executive Director of ITREPID South Sudan (ISS) was detained during a demolition exercise by security forces sparking outrage among activists.

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, Isaiah Kuch, the secretary-general of JSCN said his boss was released at 6:00PM yesterday evening following several hours of detention, but that was after what he said is a serious torture.

“The JCSN, Chairperson was released after serious torture in evening, exactly at around 6:00PM,” he said.

When contacted by Sudans Post, Bol Deng confirmed his release and also said that he was tortured and the authorities have not charged him and further said that he was not told why he was arrested and is still seeking answers.
