BOR – The Government of Jonglei State has announced that the security situation across key areas of the state has stabilised, while strongly condemning the killing of 16 civilians in Ayod County.

In a press statement dated 26 February 2026, Nyamar Lony, the Minister of Information and Communication, stated that “the general security situation in Yuai, Pathai, Motot, Wau, Mogok, Pading, Lankien, Walgak and Palony is normal.”

The statement further disclosed that on 23 February 2026, a government delegation led by Deputy Governor Wilson Awuol Gajang visited Poktap to assess the humanitarian situation of civilians affected by recent unrest. According to the statement, “the delegation assessed the cholera centre set by MSF to combat the cholera outbreak in the county.”

“The delegation further assessed the food supply distributed by WFP in Poktap and Duk Padiet for the host community in Duk,” noting that WFP is working to address food needs for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The government also highlighted ongoing efforts to contain the cholera outbreak in the area

“In line with the cholera outbreak, MSF furthermore set up another centre in Ayod County for combating the cholera outbreak in the region,” she said.

While appreciating humanitarian partners, the state government extended their deepest appreciation to the Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator of the United Nations and the accompanying delegation for visiting affected areas to assess the situation of IDPs.

“To assess and respond with emergency food supply to the IDPs in Nyirol along the Sobat River, Uror, Duk and Akobo County,” Nyamar stated.

In a separate press statement issued the same day, the Government of Jonglei State condemned a deadly incident in Pankor Village, Pajiek Payam, Ayod County.

“The Government of Jonglei State condemns the recent incident that left sixteen (16) people dead, including three (3) men, five (5) women and eight (8) children and two (2) people wounded in Pankor village, Pajiek Payam in Ayod County, committed by unruly elements from SSPDF soldiers,” Nyamar stated.

The government welcomed action taken by the military leadership to contain the situation.

“appreciates the bold decision taken by Gen. Paul Nang Majok, Chief of Defence Forces, to have apprehended the culprits and face court martial (military court),” she said.

She further reaffirmed its position on peace and stability, saying the government “reaffirms its unwavering commitment to peace and stability in Jonglei State.”

The state authorities also extended sympathy to affected families who lost their loved ones.

“The Government of Jonglei State pays its heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wishes a quick recovery to the wounded,” said Nyamar.
