JUBA – The governor of South Sudan’s Jonglei, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, has called on the visiting clergy of the Coptic Orthodox Church to pray for lasting peace in the state.
Governor Dr. Gai made this call during his meeting in Bor town on Saturday with the visiting leadership of the Coptic Orthodox Church, led by His Grace Bishop Anba Elia.
His Grace Elia conveyed messages of goodwill, blessings, and solidarity to the people and leadership of Jonglei.
In his key address after the meeting, Governor Dr. Gai urged spiritual leaders to support the state through prayers for peace and stability.
“Jonglei is a praying state. We entrust our governance and our people into God’s hands, seeking His direction in all that we undertake. We invite your prayers for our government and for lasting peace in our land.”
For his part, Bishop Anba Elia offered prayers for South Sudan and Jonglei State, expressing hope for continued peace, prosperity, and divine favor.
He commended the leadership of the state for transformative progress in infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, and security, calling them signs of recovery and renewal.
“Governor Riek leads with quiet strength and vision. He is not just rebuilding structures—he is reviving the very soul of this state. Jonglei is once again on God’s altar,” said Bishop Elia.
He described the governor as a “compassionate achiever,” noting that his actions speak louder than words and that his spiritual dedication marks a new chapter for Jonglei.
The visit also paved the way to strengthen cooperation between Jonglei State, the Coptic Orthodox Church, and the White Penguin Organization.
The visit reaffirmed the central role of faith in the governance of Jonglei State and the shared vision of rebuilding the state through spiritual, moral, and socio-economic transformation.
