BOR – Jonglei State Governor, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, has announced an ambitious project aimed at modernising Leudiet Port and Market to boost local trade and improve the economy.

The announcement follows a Thursday visit by the Gai to Leudiet Market in Bor, where he was warmly received by cheerful traders and vendors with songs complementing his efforts to revitalise the market’s infrastructure.

Mr. Gai inspected plans for the new Leudiet Port construction and addressed concerns from traders, assuring them that the project prioritises existing vendors.

“This project is for the benefit of our people and traders. We are not displacing anyone to bring in new traders. Existing traders will be given priority, so there is no need for panic,” he stated, urging cooperation to ensure the project’s success.

The initiative focuses on introducing modernisation, organisation, and order to the market, with benefits including improved trading conditions and access to credit facilities for business expansion.

“This is a win-win situation for all of us,” Gai emphasised, calling on market leaders to promote collaboration for the state’s economic growth. He highlighted that the project aims to create a safe, accessible market where traders can operate conveniently and efficiently.

“This is just a model,” The governor added, revealing plans to replicate the Leudiet Market project across Jonglei State to elevate living standards. “Once these shops are completed, everyone will appreciate our vision of rebuilding the state.”

Local trader Nyanachiek Bior expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are happy and welcome the new project introduced by the governor. Our only request is that we should be prioritised once it is done.”

Mr. Gai reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies that enhance livelihoods, positioning the Leudiet Market project as a cornerstone of Jonglei’s economic development. The initiative is expected to set a precedent for market upgrades statewide, fostering growth and opportunity for local communities.
