The conference, which ended on Saturday, brought together youth leaders, church leaders, traditional chiefs, and other community representatives from five counties—Duk, Ayod, and Uror of Jonglei State, and Lekuangole and Gumuruk of the GPAA. The event aimed to foster dialogue and promote reconciliation in a region long plagued by cycles of violence and intercommunal conflict.
Jonglei State Governor Dr. Riak Gai Kok praised the initiative, describing it as a vital step toward long-term peace and prosperity between the two regions.
“This is a great move. The three counties of Duk, Ayod, and Uror came together with their brothers from Lekuangole and Gumuruk for this peace dialogue,” said Governor Kok.
“Without peace, there will be no development or investment. I am glad that Comrade Gola is equally committed, and within a week, we plan to raise a white flag to symbolise peace between our youth,” Kok added.
The Governor commended GPAA Chief Administrator Gola Boyoi Gola for attending the conference shortly after returning to Pibor, calling it a testament to his dedication to peace and stability.
In his remarks, Mr. Gola outlined plans to build on the momentum of the conference, announcing the deployment of mobile peace teams during the upcoming dry season to engage with local communities. He also reiterated the importance of continued exchange visits between Jonglei and the GPAA.
“Our administrations are united in the pursuit of lasting peace,” Gola said. “We will continue to work together to ensure stability, reconciliation, and development for all our people.”
The conference concluded with a shared commitment from both leaderships to enhance collaboration and maintain open dialogue, offering renewed hope for peace across Jonglei and the Greater Pibor region.
