BOR – A member of South Sudan’s Jonglei State Legislative Assembly, representing Uror South Constituency, has expressed deep appreciation for President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s efforts in advancing the peace deal with the SPLM-IO Kitgwang faction.

The MP hailed the move as a crucial step toward lasting peace and stability in the Republic of South Sudan.

On February 2, a delegation from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) Kitgwang faction, led by General Simon Gatwich Dual, arrived in Juba, two days after signing a peace agreement with the South Sudanese government in Port Sudan.

Wany Bum Makhor, a member of the Jonglei State Legislative Assembly, stressed the importance of unity and collaboration in ensuring the successful implementation of the agreement. He called on all stakeholders—including political leaders, civil society organizations, and the public—to embrace dialogue and reconciliation.

“To fellow South Sudanese who hold contrary views, and particularly those sympathizing with or politically affiliated with SPLM/A-IO under Dr. Riek Machar Teny, let’s embrace this moment of peace and applaud the President for his sacrificial effort in advancing the unending task of bringing about meaningful peace by extending the hands of peace to the Kitgwang group,” Wany said.

The MP also acknowledged the role of regional bodies and international partners in facilitating the peace process, expressing gratitude for their ongoing support.

“It is imperatively significant to maintain and hold negative peace. We must collectively embrace the painstaking culture of peace and patriotism to the country in order to rise to the occasion of positive peace,” Wany added.

He further called on the President’s office to prioritize the inclusion of the SPLM-IO Kitgwang faction in the Tumaini Peace Process in Kenya.

“I call for the inclusion of General Simon Gatwech Dual and General Johnson Olong in the Rome peace engagement, now renamed the Tumaini Peace Initiative, loosely translated in English as the Hope Peace Initiative,” Wany said.
