Jonglei partners with UNOCHA to bolster aid delivery

 BOR – The governor of South Sudan’s Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, on Wednesday, affirmed the state’s commitment to partner with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) to improve aid delivery.

Speaking during a meeting held in Juba on Wednesday, state governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok reiterated his government’s willingness to work with humanitarian partners to accelerate relief delivery.

“We will make our position clear; food must reach the people who need it most,” Gai said.

Dr. Gai stressed the need for humanitarian partners to prioritize humanitarian needs of the citizens, especially those facing life-threatening challenges due to flooding.

“I appeal to our partners to ensure that aid distribution is equitable and inclusive of all impacted areas. No one should be left behind because of location or politics.”

He expressed his gratitude to humanitarian actors for their continued charitable support to the communities of Jonglei State.

“Jonglei State cannot face these challenges alone. Partnerships like these give our people hope that their suffering is not ignored.”

For his part, Mr. David Carden, Head of the UNOCHA in South Sudan, said the discussions focused on strengthening humanitarian access, improving logistical coordination, and expediting the delivery of food and essential supplies across the state.

“Our partners are essential to this mission. With the support of the state government, we can strengthen our collaboration and ensure continued delivery of food and services to the people of Jonglei. This partnership is vital for improving lives and restoring hope,” Carden said.

He said they had open dialogue aimed at overcoming barriers to aid delivery.

“It is not enough to reach the easy places. We must work together to reach those who have been cut off by floodwaters, poor roads, or insecurity. That is where our collective efforts matter most.”

He emphasized the importance of focusing on hard-to-reach communities, where the needs are greatest.

With flooding and displacement continuing to disrupt livelihoods, the collaboration between the Jonglei State Government, UNOCHA, and humanitarian partners signals a renewed hope for thousands in need.
