JUBA- The South Sudan National Communication Authority hosted the first Advisory Council and the 30th Annual Assemblies of the East African Communications Organization (EACO) in Juba on Monday, focusing on digital transformation.

Gieth Kon, the Director General of the National Communications Authority, said during the opening that the telecommunications regulator is productive, forward-thinking, and driven by a shared commitment to progress.

“This is an opportunity; it reflects our growth and belief in regional solidarity. The contributions made will bolster the impact and legitimacy of our collective efforts. It is essential to remember that the policies, recommendations, and technical standards adopted will have an impact on the lives of every citizen,” said Kon at the Radisson Blu Hotel during the opening of the five-day forum of the first advisory and 30th annual assemblies of the East African Communications Organisation.

Ali Yattaya Zimba, the Executive Director of the East African Communications Organisation, stated that the annual assemblies will focus on shaping the future of the East African region through digital transformation.

“This is not just a vision; it is a mandate that calls upon all of us to drive the kind of innovation, harmonisation, and policy that will empower our citizens and economies in the digital age,” said Zimba.

Samuel Muthizi, the chairperson of the Board of the East African Communications Organisation, said that the Advisory Council and the 30th Annual Assemblies aim to harness communication technologies.

“This reflects the collective aspiration of our region to harness the power of information and communication technologies for sustainable socio-economic development and effective annual assemblies of the East African Communications Organisation,” said Muthizi.

Muthizi revealed that the journey of the East African Communications Organisation has been one of harmonisation and collaboration, where robust, reliable, secure, and affordable communication services are a reality for every citizen.

“The East African Communications Organisation seeks to strengthen and promote cooperation among the East African community and partnerships in the development and provision of postal, telecommunications, and broadcasting services,” he said.

The first Advisory Council and the 30th Annual Assemblies of the East African Communications Organisation will discuss cross-cutting issues, including flagship governance systems as well as building stronger collaboration among regulators, operators, innovators, and policymakers.
