Juba to beef up security ahead of festive season

JUBA – South Sudan’s Central Equatoria state has said that it is beefing up security in the country’s capital Juba ahead of festive season, according to a statement by the gubernatorial press office there.

In recent weeks, the country’s capital has seen hike in crimes rate with unknown gunmen seen resuming activities that include targeting anti-government activists and politicians.

“Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has unveiled measures to beef up the general security situation across the state ahead of the festive season,” a statement by Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony said Wednesday evening.

The statement said the governor disclosed the measures during a state security meeting he chaired on Wednesday morning and “directed the state security operatives to continue improving the security situation especially in parts of Yei and Juba where immerse number of cattle herders are reported.”

It further added that the governor “directed security operatives to remain vigilant on curbing land grabbing related issues across the state and as well mobilizing the civil population on general cleanness exercise as started previously.”

it concluded by saying that the governor “lauded security apparatuses for their efforts towards maintaining the security situation across the state and called for more robust efforts to stabilizing security across the state.”
