JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday night issued a republican decree allocating top senior army and police to the country’s main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLM).

In a decree read out on the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), the South Sudan head of state allocated the position of Inspector General of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), and deputy army chief for morale and orientation to the SPLA-IO.

Kiir in a related decree allocated the position of deputy inspector general of police with the rank of lieutenant general to the SPLA-IO. In a separate decree, Kiir allocated the deputy army chief for riverine force to the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).

Kiir also allocated another position equal to deputy police chief to SSOA.

While it remains unclear if the allocation was reached between the parties, President Kiir and First Vice President Machar have been loggerheads on the allocation of the unified forces command.
