In a statement following a presidency meeting that was attended by SPLM-IO leader and First Vice President Riek Machar, the presidency said Kiir directed security forces to protect citizens’ right to freedom of movement.
“The Presidency in a meeting chaired by President Kiir has directed the free movement of people and services throughout the country, banning any armed group from controlling specific areas in the country,” the presidency said.
“The leadership says this is to ensure the citizens go about their daily activities without fear or any hindrances,” it added.
Speaking following the presidency Kiir’s security advisor Tut Gatluak said the presidency “further directed the security organs to investigate the recent killings in the suburbs of Juba, Wunkur of Ruweng Administrative Area and along some stations along the River Nile.”
“The Presidency said those responsible for the heinous crimes must be held to account, warning people against engaging in harmful activities,” her added.
