JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has – during a meeting on Wednesday – blessed yesterday’s agreement by the parties over the allocation of local government positions and asked First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other parties to submit lists of their nominees.

Yesterday, the parties, after several months of disagreement, decided to end the local governments deadlock and divided counties which weren’t allocated among themselves with Machar’s SPLM-IO taking oil-rich Rubkona among key counties previously contested by the parties.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar were briefed at the State House on Wednesday by the High Level Committee for structuring of both the States and local Government after the completion of their task on allocation of responsibility sharing of States Government amongst the various parties,” the presidency said in a statement seen by Sudans Post this afternoon.

The country’s minister of Minister of Energy and Dams Peter Marcello said “President Salva Kiir has blessed the work of the Committee and urged the Parties to present the list of the names of their nominees for the appointment of the States government next week,” according to the presidency statement.

It further quoted Kiir’s security advisor reaffirming the president’s commitment to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement as several provisions of the agreement have remained behind schedule.

Gatluak expressed President Kiir’s “readiness of His Excellency General Salva Kiir Mayardit the President of the Republic of South Sudan and his government to fasten the implementation of the Peace Agreement for a lasting peace to prevail in the country.”
