On October 7, Hamas operatives launched a surprise attack on at least 22 locations inside the Israeli territory killing nearly 2000 Israeli civilians and taking more than 100, including members of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), hostages.
The attack sparked international condemnations with the United States expressing unwavering support for the Israeli people.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on October 9, Kiir expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condemned the heinous attack, which has garnered condemnation from governments around the world.
“On behalf of the Government and people of South Sudan, I extend my deepest sympathies to you and the people of Israel for the loss of innocent lives in the unprovoked terror attack by Hamas this past weekend,” the president stated.
The South Sudanese head of state said no political grievances could ever justify the killing of innocent civilians by the Palestinian armed group and assured the Israeli government of South Sudan’s support as it defenses itself.
“While you face the enormity of this terror, the Government and people of South Sudan stand united with you and all Israelis,” he said.
“While the scale of this tragedy is immense, I am confident in the resilience and determination of the Israeli people.
“I firmly believe that Israel will emerge even stronger in the aftermath of this act of terror. May God the Almighty bring solace to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragic attack,” he added.
