Kiir dispatches security advisor, spy chief to Addis Ababa to deliver mediation offer on Ethiopian-Sudanese conflict

The delegation includes Nhial Deng Nhial, the minister of East African Affairs, Jonglei state governor, Denay Chagor, and the country's foreign minister Mrs. Beatrice Khamisa Wani.

ADDIS ABABA – South Sudan’s Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs Tut Gatluak Manimeh and the Director General of National Security Service (NSS) General Akol Koor Kuc are in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, to deliver to authorities there an offer by President Salva Kiir Mayardit to mediate between the Ethiopian and the Sudanese over escalating border conflict.

Earlier this month, President Kiir’s security advisor Gatluak told reporters in the Sudanese capital Khartoum that the South Sudanese head of state had offered to mediate between Sudanese and Ethiopians over escalating conflict over border.

Later on, the office of the Sudanese Prime Minister welcomed the South Sudan president’s initiative  as “an affirmation of the principle of African solutions to African problems.”

In a statement, Peter Mayuk, a member of President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s office, said President Kiir has dispatched members of the government including the head of the intelligence, NSS, General Akol Koor to Addis Ababa to discuss with authorities there the offer by South Sudan to mediate between Ethiopians and the Sudanese.

“As part of his Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s efforts to resolve the border conflicts between two sisterly countries of Ethiopia and Sudan, a high-level delegation from South Sudan has arrived in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa,” said Peter Mayuk, a member of President Salva Kiir’s office.

“The government delegation is headed by the Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs Tut Gatluak arrived in Addis Ababa and will convey President Kiir’s written letter to the Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed regarding the mediation effort South Sudan is about to start in resolving the border conflicts between Ethiopia and Sudan,” the government official said.

Sudans Post has learned that Ethiopian State Minister of Foreign Affairs Birtukan Ayano and South Sudan’s deputy ambassador to Ethiopia, welcomed the delegation from the airport. The delegation includes Nhial Deng Nhial, the minister of East African Affairs, Jonglei state governor, Denay Chagor, and the country’s foreign minister Mrs. Beatrice Khamisa Wani.
