JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit last night issued a Republic Decree dismissing the Central Equatoria state gubernatorial advisor for peace and security, James Modi Loku of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).

In a separate Republic Decree, the South Sudanese President appointed Angelo Lado Michael of South Sudan Opposition Alliance as the new gubernatorial advisor for peace and security.

The presidential decree read out on the country’s state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSOA) did not give reasons as to why the changes were made, just less than a year since Mr. Loku’s appointment.

President Kiir in recent days has been reconstituting state parliaments, something that is an important step in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement he signed with several opposition groups including SSOA in 2018.

Last week, he reconstituted state parliaments for Western Equatoria, Central Equatoria, Lakes, and Upper Nile state. Six states along with the three administrative areas have remained without legislatures.
