JUBA – President Salva Kiir has relieved controversial Presidential Press Secretary David Amour Majur from his position, with the government saying a replacement will be announced “in due course,” according to an official statement issued Tuesday.

In a press release dated February 3, 2026, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs confirmed that the changes were made through Republican Decrees issued by the Head of State.

“The Office of the President hereby informs the General Public that it has pleased His Excellency the President… to announce the following Republican Decrees,” read the statement signed by Africano Mande Gedima, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, on behalf of the President.

Under the section titled Relief of Officials, Kiir announced the dismissal of two senior figures: Valentino Dhel Malueth, Chief Administrator at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, and Mr Amour, who has been serving as Press Secretary in the Office of the President for over a year.

The shake-up also included a fresh appointment within the ministry. Marik Nanga Marik has been named the new Chief Administrator at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, replacing Malueth.

However, the government did not immediately name a successor to Amour, noting instead that “the appointment for the position of Press Secretary, Office of the President is currently pending and will be announced in due course.”

The presidency expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service.

“H.E. the President further wishes to express his profound gratitude to the outgoing officials for their dedicated service and contributions to the Nation during their tenure,” the statement said, while extending best wishes to the newly appointed official.

The changes take immediate effect. While no reasons for removal were given, Amour has not only been a prominent public figure. He was also controversial. The most notable incident was a public outburst directed at a female legal practitioner.

In September 2025, lawyer Josephine Adhet Deng filed a case against Majur under Sections 245 and 289 of the Penal Code Act, 2008, which criminalize acts of intimidation and defamation respectively. The complaint, already registered with the prosecution office, prompted the issuance of a police warrant for his arrest.

The case was later dismissed over insufficient evidence to back the intimidation claims, which only hinged on the then Spokesman using the “f” word against Adhet, a sentiment widely interpreted by the public as an expression of emotion.
