JUBA — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny should convene a meeting of the presidency on the needed implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, an activist has said.

In a statement extended to Sudans Post, Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), said the implementation of the 2018 peace deal needs an urgent meeting of the peace presidency to discuss the stalemate.

“The implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) requires urgent meeting of the presidency on the status of R-ARCSS implementation,” the CEPO said in the statement released to the media this morning.

“Community Empowerment for Progress Organization view the presidency should hold urgent meeting on the status of R-ARCSS implementation since the end of the lifespan of R-ARCSS is approaching on 22nd February, 2023,” the statement added.

Yakani said “early dialogue among the political parties signatories to the R-ARCSS on the way forward to handle and transition from the deadline of  22nd February, 2023 is essential.”

The prominent journalist stressed that “The presidency is the primary institution that can initiate this early dialogue on the status of R-ARCSS implementation.”

“The silence of the presidency on this issues of reaching early political decisions on the transition from 22nd February 2023 may put the country in serious political dilemma,” he added.

He warned that “Any political dilemma in the current political status of the country where communities are getting stronger armed than the state defense and security institutions is risk.”
