Speaking to the press on Friday, the presidential press secretary, Arek Aldo Ajou Deng, said that the president called for prayers and solidarity with the affected families while reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability.
She said that the President conveyed heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones in the Abiemnhom tragedy and emphasized that the loss of any South Sudanese life deeply affects him and the nation as a whole.
Deng said that the government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and stability across the country.
“Throughout the week, the President has been holding confidential meetings with senior officials and receiving security briefings on national stability. The discussions are part of ongoing efforts to remain informed about security challenges and protect the well-being of citizens.”
She revealed that the president has convened several confidential meetings in which he received security updates and held discussions with senior officials on matters concerning national stability and government priorities.
“While the details of these briefings remain classified and are not for public disclosure, they form part of the President’s continued efforts to remain fully informed and actively engaged in matters affecting the safety and well-being of the nation.”
Last week, at least 169 people, including two senior local officials, were killed and 50 were injured when dozens of armed youths from Unity State attacked Abiemnhom County in the Ruweng Administrative Area, according to the area’s Information Minister, James Monyluak Mijok.
