JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has promoted the Executive Director in the Office of the President, Deng Wal, from the rank of Colonel to the Rank of Major General in the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), relatives and colleagues have said.

“This is to confirm to you that the executive director in the office of the president Hon. James Deng Wal has been promoted by the president to the rank of Major-General in the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF),” one family member who requested not to be named said.

“Before that, he was a colonel in the SSPDF and we the family welcome and congratulate him and the president for the decision and the confident he has made to promote him to that important rank in the army,” the family source added.

Deng Wal was an SPLA officer who has been close to President Salva Kiir Mayardit since the independent of South Sudan in 2011 from Sudan. He has been responsible for the office of the president since 2015.
