In a statement, the presidency said the Sudanese delegation from the Transitional Sovereign Council was led by Al-Hadi Idris, the leader of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) and briefed the president over the agreement signed by the Sudanese parties in December last year.
“President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with members of Sudan’s Sovereign Council to brief him on the political situation in Sudan, the framework agreement signed last December, and the role of South Sudan in the peace process,” the presidency said in a statement seen by Sudans Post.
Speaking to the media following their meeting with Kiir, Dr. Osama Saeed – the spokesman of the Sudan Revolutionary Front – said “the two sides have a good relationship and are working successfully within the framework.”
For his part, the minister of presidential affairs Barnaba Marial Benjamin who attended the meeting said “the South Sudanese government would support Sudan in achieving peace while promoting stability and development.”
The leader of the SRF Idris “thanked President Salva Kiir Mayardit for his efforts to reach out to the parties concerned to bring about a lasting and inclusive peace.”
