JUBA — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and two senior members of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) faction have reconciled months after speculations that the two senior SPLM members were longing for Kiir’s removal from politics.

Daniel Awet Akot is a former presidential advisor for military affairs and is a senior member of the SPLM, but has in the recent past called for resignation of the president saying the historical party has failed to deliver.

This call was also echoed by Kuol Manyang Juuk, the senior presidential envoy who said he had been sidelined by people like Kiir’s security advisor Tut Gatluak Manimeh from the president despite being the most senior advisor to the president.

Speaking to Sudans Post yesterday, a senior SPLM member said from Juba that the president had met privately and separately with Manyang and Akot and has since reconciled with the two.

“The issue has been resolved because President Salva Kiir Mayardit has met them separately and discussed the issues affecting the future of the parties and there is no doubt that the two are the most important members of the SPLM party after the president,” the source who requested not to be identified said.

“So, currently, they are working hand-in-hand with the president and the work is going on as usual. So, there is no any problems within the SPLM party as I speak to you,” the source said.
