Kiir signs 4 bills into law

JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday signed at least four bills proposed by the transitional parliament into law, according to a statement issued by the president’s office later this evening.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday signed four bills into law which were passed by the Transitional National Legislative Assembly and were forwarded to the President for assenting into law as required by the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the four bills are the constitution-making process bill 2022, the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan Amendment Bill no 11 2022, the national police service amendment bill, and the national wildlife service bill.

The bills were summitted to the president on different occasions this year by the speaker of parliament Jemma Nunu Kumba who said during the signing of the bills by the president that “these laws are related to the implementation process of the peace agreement.”

The top South Sudanese lawmaker further revealed that “new acts have been submitted to the President and will be assented in the course of this week” and said that these bills include national security bill, anti- corruption, referendum, public finance, and accountability.

She further revealed that the parliament has ratified five conventions and international treaties on economic and political acts.

These include the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the rights of women in Africa, International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights as well as International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, ICCPR and the Paris Agreement and the International Covenant on the rights of persons with disabilities, 2006.
