Kiir, top lawmakers discuss security situation in 3 states, 1 administrative area  

In a statement, the presidency said the meeting between Kiir and the leadership of the council of states discussed the security situation in Warrap, Unity State, Western Equatoria as well as the Abyei Administrative Area.

JUBA – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday afternoon met the leadership of the Council of States to discuss the deteriorating security situations in at least three states of plus and an administrative area in the world’s youngest country.

This comes after an attack launched by armed youth from Warrap State targeted several areas in southern Abyei resulting in the killing of at least 25 people, according to authorities in Abyei Administrative Area.

In a statement, the presidency said the meeting between Kiir and the leadership of the council of states discussed the security situation in Warrap, Unity State, Western Equatoria as well as the Abyei Administrative Area.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday met a delegation of members from Council of States led by Hon. Deng Deng Akoon, Speaker of the House to discuss the security and political situation in Warrap, Unity, Western Equatoria States and Abyei Administrative Area,” the statement reads in part.

The speaker of the council of state said they have “formed a facts-finding Committees to visit Warrap, Unity, Western Equatoria States, and Abyei Administrative Area regarding the issues that are facing them and find amicable solutions.”

For his part, the minister of presidential affairs Barnaba Marial Benjamin who attended the meeting urged the governments in the state and the Abyei Administrative Area “to cooperate with the Council of States.”
