JUBA — A South Sudan academic has said that the world’s youngest country has collapsed under President Salva Kiir Mayardit regardless of him being aware or not.

“Of course South Sudan has collapsed under Salva Kiir,” Jok Madut Jok co-founder of the Juba-based Sudd Institute said.

“Whether he knows this or not, truth is all of us who live on the margins of the state should give up & go grow potatoes so our children can eat, work communally to ensure our safety by means of alliances with our neighbors,” he added.

Jok who was an undersecretary for the ministry of culture and heritage further said “Soldiers of the organized forces can continue to call themselves defenders of Kiir’s government at their own peril, defend what, seriously? Continuing to rely on the state that cares not is foolish!”
