Last week, armed men from Twic Mayardit attacked Aneet market in Abyei Administrative Area killing a number of people and setting the market on fire, sparking condemnation among the public.
Violence had also erupted between armed youth from Ruweng Administrative Area and Unity State after army men from Ruweng attacked a cattle camp hosting IDPs from Unity state in Ruweng.
In a statement published on Facebook, activist Wani Michael who has fled to exile said the government of President Salva Kiir is doing nothing to contain the tensions among citizens because it doesn’t care about their lives.
“Very unfortunate and sad that the doing nothing government of President Kiir didn’t issue any public statement or address the nation on the situation between the people of Twic in Warrap State and Abyei,” Michael said.
“This particular government doesn’t care about the security and safety of our people,” he added.
He said the government is “very weak to respond to emerging issues in the Country even with the huge government officials just slaying in Juba.”
“They want to pretend like they don’t know what’s happening to these two communities.”
