Kiir’s South African visit adds no value to peace deal – activist

This comes after President Kiir left along with a huge delegation to South Africa where he is expected to meet his South African counterparts Cyril Ramaphosa in a gathering that would discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and South Sudan's own peace deal.

JUBA – A prominent South Sudanese activist is saying that President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s South African visit which is expected to take three days does not add so much value to the implementation of the country’s revitalized peace agreement he signed with his now deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

This comes after President Kiir left along with a huge delegation to South Africa where he is expected to meet his South African counterparts Cyril Ramaphosa in a gathering that would discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and South Sudan’s own peace deal.

Speaking during an interview, Rajab Mohandis, a prominent South Sudan activist, said he does not see much value in Kiir’s South Africa visit and argued instead that the president should only work hard to make sure the 2018 peace agreement is implemented smoothly.

“We don’t see so much value that comes from some of these countries,” Mohandis is quoted as saying by the Juba-based Eye Radio.

“So at the moment, we would love to see the president engaging with the South Sudanese more and getting to implement the agreement in a manner that responds to the needs of the civil populations,” Mohandis added.
