JUBA – A Liberian citizen who was arrested along with 13 other criminals in South Sudan over counterfeit cash by South Sudan’s National Security Service yesterday is said to have been also arrested by South Sudan authorities in 2014 on similar crime.

Yesterday, the Operation Security Division of South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) announced the arrest of 14 members of a criminal network in the country’s capital Juba in connection with circulation of 93 million counterfeit U.S dollars and 400,000 South Sudanese Pounds, according to a NSS media official.

Director of Public Relations at National Security Service David John Kumuri, said two of the suspects are foreign nationals from Liberia and Guinea Bissau and were arrested in possession of various counterfeit money and other illegal materials on Wednesday.

Speaking to Sudans Post separately today, one of the NSS security officers said the Liberian citizen who confessed of having been involved in the criminal activity since 2010 and has been detained, at least once, by the security services of South Sudan.

“What I know is that he was once arrested by the NSS and was released because of lack of evidences. He was arrested on the crimes such as this one, the production of money, or fake money which is illegal as per the law of South Sudan,” he said.
