Machar-allied commander resigns, calls SPLM-IO a ‘scam’

JUBA – A South Sudan opposition commander allied to the country’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar has resigned, saying the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, is a scam.

Brigadier-General Simon Wieu Garang said he has quit the group because Machar is dictating how the ten states are ran saying he is only protecting his leadership.

“I, Brig. Gen. Simon Wieu Garang, has finally quit the SPLM/IO due to mismanagement of party affairs. Parties are always national, but you are running the SPLM-IO as a tribal group,” he said.

“The SPLM IO has become a political scam like some other International organizations that operates on scamming the entire world,” he added.

The opposition officer further said he now holds regrets that he joined the most powerful opposition group in the world’s youngest country.

“I regrets joining you in the first place just to come and dumped every one after you arrived to  Canaan (Luak),” he said.

“I apologize to fellow citizens of South Sudan that I had misled myself when I was comapaigning for transformational system in the country under Riek Machar leadership,” he added.

“The opposition officer further said “I will announce my next political move as soon as I study where my interests will be met sincerely.”
