JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has asked his loyalists in the states and counties to submit names of their nominees for states and local government positions, according to his media official James Gatdet Dak.

This comes barely a week after the parties to the revitalized peace agreement agreed to end the deadlock on the allocation of states and local government positions which has been a stumbling block for the revitalized peace agreement.

In a statement this morning, James Gatdet said consultations at the local SPLM-IO constituencies have been completed and that the country’s First Vice President has told the constituencies to submit names of their nominees for formation of state and local government positions.

“All the SPLM/SPLA (IO) representatives of the constituencies from all the 10 States have now completed their respective separate consultative meetings under the Chairmanship of His Excellency, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, the First Vice President of the Republic and Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO),” Gatdet said in a statement seen by Sudans Post.

“They are all directed to submit names of their respective nominees within days for appointments to the various executive and legislative positions in the States,” the senior opposition official added.

He further said lists for those being nominated to the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) and the Reconstituted Transitional Council of State are being finalized and will be submitted soon for establishment of the parliament.

“Names of nominees to the national legislature in Juba are also in their final touches for submission,” he said, adding that the “I believe other Parties to the R-ARCSS are equally getting ready to submit names of their respective nominees.”

Gatdet in conclusion congratulated “His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit on the imminent completion of the formation of the R-TGoNU across our beloved country.”
