According to a statement by Machar’s office, the meeting which was also attended by visiting senior Sudanese government officials was used by Machar as an opportunity to raise concerns over continued violations of the revitalized peace agreement by President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s side of the agreement.
“The First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, His Excellency Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon held two meetings in his office on 19 and 20 August 2021, with His Excellency Dr. Abdallah Hamdok, Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan and his accompanying delegation who arrived in Juba on August 19, 2021,” Machar’s office said in a statement seen by Sudans Post.
The statement said the meeting between the two leaders discussed the challenges facing the revitalized peace agreement with Machar raising complains against President Salva Kiir Mayardit for refusing to appoint opposition nominee for deputy minister of interior who was submitted to the president on February 1, 2021.
“The two meetings discussed in detail the critical issues of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) mainly; the implementation of the Security Arrangements, the Power-sharing Agreements on the Administrative Areas and appointment of the SPLM/A (IO) nominee to the position of Deputy Minister of Interior whose nomination was submitted the President Salva Kiir Mayardit on February 1st, 2021,” the statement said.
