Machar presides over launch of symposium on federalism as part of permanent constitution making process

South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar has this afternoon officiated the launch of symposium on permanent constitution-making process on federalism, according to a statement by the FVP’s office.

JUBA — South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar has this afternoon officiated the launch of symposium on permanent constitution-making process on federalism, according to a statement by the FVP’s office.

“Wednesday 23rd June 2021 – His Excellency the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has this morning in Pyramid Hotel, Juba, officiated the launch of the symposium on the Federalism in the Permanent Constitution-Making Process in South Sudan under the theme ‘Towards a Legitimate and Effective Federal Constitution Framework,’” the statement said.

“The symposium launching was attended by Hon. Lasuba L. Wango, Minister of Federal Affairs, members of Diplomatic Corps and Missions in South Sudan; and representatives of the stakeholders of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS),” it adds.

It said the two-day function “aims at discussing issues pertaining the implementation of the federal system in South Sudan.”

According to the statement, the function was “organized by the Ministry of Federal Affairs in conjunction with Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), UN Women, United Nation Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).”
