JUBA, MARCH 10, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is also the main armed opposition SPLM-IO leader has said that his meeting with President Salva Kiir Mayardit over the sacking of the minister of defense Angelina Teny has ended in deadlock.
This comes after Kiir and Machar locked themselves up at the presidency earlier today to discuss the removal of Angelina Teny and the subsequent transfer of her ministry from the SPLM-IO to the ruling SPLM faction under Kiir.
In a statement, Gordon Yien Gordon, Machar’s acting spokesman, said the meeting of his boss with President Kiir ended in deadlock and the two men has rescheduled the meeting to another dead which is yet to be decided.
“The Office of the First Vice President, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO), would like to inform the general public that, the two Principals (President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar) met at J1 today and discussed the recent unilateral Decree and the Republican Order issued last week that relieved Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs and swapped two ministries without consultations between the parties,” he said.
“The meeting ended in deadlock.
“However, the two Principals agreed to meet again at a later date in hope to resolve the deadlock in the spirit of collegial manner, as prescribed in the R-ARCSS.”
