JUBA – South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) has released a report on the outbreak of conflict in December 2013 and July 2016 accusing First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and Vice President Taban Deng Gai of planning the 2013 coup.

In the report, the National Security Service claimed that the evidence in their possession strongly indicates that First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny planned a coup prior to outbreak conflict in December 2013 and was assisted by Vice President Taban Deng Gai who was then unity state governor.

“Chapter 1 sets out the evidence as to how Riek Machar planned the attempted coup of 15 December 2013 by both military and political means,” the report – a copy of which is obtained by Sudans Post – reads in part.

“Taban Deng Gai led the military efforts in coordinating troops and weapons with Brigadier General Peter Lim Bol Badeng Commander of Tiger Brigade 1 and other officers in the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA),” the report added.

The report claims that the spy agency has telephone evidence detailing how the plan by Vice-President Machar, Taban Deng Gai, and others, was being planned.

“The telephone intercepts reveal how the conspirators put into action their plans. This evidence corroborates the evidence produced in the Investigation Commission formed by Presidential Decree in 2014 conducted under the law of South Sudan,” the report added.
