Makuei made this announcement after meeting with President Salva Kiir at the state house in Juba on Wednesday.
Makuei said the court proceeding, now in its 68th session, is progressing and is in its final stages.
He did not provide a specific timeline for when the verdict or final ruling would be delivered, but emphasised that the process is advancing steadily.
“Hon. Makuei reported on the progress of the court case, adding that proceedings are progressing and nearing completion,” the Presidential Unit said in a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday.
Makuei also updated President Salva Kiir Mayardit on his recent engagement at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
He further highlighted measures underway to strengthen the ministry’s capacity to deliver improved legal services as part of broader institutional reforms.
Machar, 73, who is currently under house arrest, faces charges including murder, conspiracy, terrorism, treason, and crimes against humanity. His co-accused remains detained by the National Security Service.
Prosecutors allege that SPLA-IO forces, allied with the White Army militia, killed 257 South Sudan People’s Defence Forces soldiers, including commander David Majur Dak, and destroyed or seized approximately $58 million in military equipment during the attack on the Nasir garrison in March 2025.
The case has drawn widespread attention both domestically and internationally, given Machar’s prominent role in South Sudan’s political landscape and his long-standing rivalry with President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
His legal proceedings have been closely followed by regional and international stakeholders, many of whom have called for transparency and fairness in the judicial process.
Makue’s remarks come amid growing regional and international pressure on the Kiir regime to unconditionally release Machar and other political detainees, and engage in inclusive national dialogue.
