Machar, Warrap state governor discuss revival of Wunlit peace conference to curtail inter-communal violence

South Sudan's First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has met this afternoon with the governor of the country's Warrap state and discussed the general security situation in the state and how to revive the Wunlit conference, according to a statement.

JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has met this afternoon with the governor of the country’s Warrap state and discussed the general security situation in the state and how to revive the Wunlit conference, according to a statement.

“His Excellency the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon met, in his office, this morning (Thursday 24th June 2021), with Hon. Aleu Ayieny Aleu, Governor of Warrap State,” Machar’s office said in the statement seen by Sudans Post.

The statement quoted the governor of Warrap state as saying that he “briefed the First Vice President on the general situation in the State” and discussed “discussed the reviving of Wunlit Peace Conference initiative to halt communal conflicts, enhance security and stability in the states of Warrap, Unity and Lakes.”

The senior government official further said the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny “pledged to support his state government efforts to maintain peace and stability in Warrap State.”
