Makuei warns ministries against resisting cabinet policies, institutional reforms

JUBA – South Sudan’s information minister Michael Makuei Lueth has warned some government ministries against resisting national cabinet’s policies and institutional reforms after a ministry reportedly sent back a senior government official who was send to temporarily work in that ministry.
Last month, the Council of Ministers in a meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir resolved to rotate director-generals in all government ministries in the capital Juba after the ministry of labor came up with it.
However, speaking to reporters following a weekly cabinet meeting on Friday, Makuei who is also the government spokesman said some ministries have resisted the policy of rotation.
“Some of the institutions decided to reject and send away those who were transferred and decided to retain those who were transferred,” Makuei said Friday.
Makuei said the cabinet has resolved to enforce the new policy, warning that no one is allowed to resist what he said are institutional policies.
“This of course was an irregularity and as such the cabinet has resolved that this order has to be implemented in letter and spirit,” the senior government official said.
“Nobody has the right to reject the transfer of any official from a ministry to another [according to South Sudan constitution],” he added.
According to South Sudan’s Transitional Constitution, the Director-General for Administration and Finance is responsible for the compilation and management of the accounts of the government, the custody and safety of public money and all the resources of the government.
