Aluel Garang, who is popularly known as Aluel Messi, was appointed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit last month as the deputy governor of the restive Warrap State.
This appointment sparked controversy among members of the public, who have speculated that Mayen, a close ally of President Kiir despite being an opposition leader, had used his political relations to influence her appointment to the senior state government position.
According to government sources in Kuajok, the new deputy governor has since been kept at a hotel in the capital.
Mayen said in a brief social media statement that this is a violation of their family principles.
“I don’t like the way the Warrap government is keeping Hon. Deputy Governor Aluel Garang Garang in a hotel when she is a resident of Kuac (Kuajok) and she has a home in Ajiep, Kuajok,” he wrote on Facebook on September 5.
“That is against our family principles. We (Majongdit family) are oriented,” he added.
