AWEIL —The South Sudan’s Northern Bahr El Gazal State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday commenced a three-month recess, which is expected to end until July 2025.
Garang Kuol Mabior, spokesman of the state legislative assembly, told journalists on Tuesday that members of parliament would visit their constituents during the recess time to hear about issues that impact them.
“The parliamentarians are breaking for a three-month period. As the speaker, Madam Right Honorable Speaker Achol William Amuoi addressed the MPs to go back to their constituencies and hear from their constituencies on what they are getting as too challenging,” said Mabior.
Mabior invited the local population to attend sessions or motions tabled for discussion in the assembly so they can learn how their MPs communicate their concerns.
“We are going to find out the most pressing matters, such as the food insecurity that our people are going through, and when we get back, we are going to push for ways of alleviating it,” he lamented.
Some locals claim that the MPs aren’t doing enough to draw attention to the serious issues they are facing.
